Never use the links in an email, instant message, or chat to get to any web page if you suspect the message might not be authentic or you don't know the sender. Instead, call the company on the telephone, or log onto the website directly by typing in the Web address in your browser.

Security Recommendations

Pay special attention to the URL addresses (https://www.nbofi.com) that websites link to. The only method to insure that cross-site scripting does not take place is careful observation on your part.

When linking to a secure site, be sure the Secure Site Icon in your browser(typically a lock or key) is in place.

Use the newest available browser version — The newest versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer and FireFox help protect you from known fraudulent websites.

Keystroke loggers capture each character as they are typed in. Consequently no matter the level of security at the other end, UserIDs and Passwords can be compromised. Do not attempt to sign on to Internet Banking from any computer other than your own.

Personal firewalls are recommended if you utilize an “always on” broadband Internet connection (LAN, cable modem, or DSL). Personal firewalls may not prevent individuals from accessing your computer, but a personal firewall should notify you if access is attempted.

Use passwords with combinations of alpha and numeric characters, upper and lowercases, special characters (~!#$%^&*), and intentionally misspelled words for the strongest security (i.e. “sEKURE1!” instead of “secure”).

DO NOT give out any passwords or account numbers online.

DO NOT store Internet Banking IDs or passwords on your computer.

Always use encrypted e-mail to send confidential information. We strongly encourage our clients to use The National Bank of Indianapolis Secure Email Portal when transmitting any sensitive (financial or personal) information to us. The Secure Email Portal provides a web-based e-mail protection system that makes it easy for you to send, receive, read and reply to all our encrypted communications with the same level of security the Bank utilizes.

Always clear your browser history.

Use virus and spyware protection software that receives regular automatic updates.
